Portimão

The place in the Algarve with the most new developments is Portimão. Here is a large Shopping Centre and the 2nd centre in development. Portimão has also in a very large retail park where the big supermarkets are located.

The town of Portimao has a wealth of shops where you can find all the famous brands. Every year with New Years Eve there is a big fireworks show. In Portugal no one put off his own fireworks, it is regulated and paid by the local municipality resulting in a magnificent fireworks show!

Every Saturday early in the morning there is a special big fish market with a large variety of fish! The only fish market of its kind in the Algarve. Portimão is also a port city which houses the largest sardinefleet of Portugal, situated at the mouth of the Rio Arade.

Some features of this community are the narrow streets of the old fishing village, the many fish restaurants, the contours of a white church on the hilltop, the beautiful sea and the town of Praia da Rocha with its beautiful beaches.

Sights include the Ria de Alvor, Omega Parque and various boat trips.
